Master student, KIT Karlsruher Institut für Technologie
My name is Clara Vázquez-Martel, and I am a master's student in materials science and materials engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
I was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. From the 5th grade on, I attended a German school abroad, which is why I grew up bilingual. That is why I decided to continue my academic education in Germany after finishing school. I am especially interested in the research field of additive manufacturing (also known as 3D printing). I think this technology has the potential to change and democratize our current production chains fundamentally, and I want to be part of this innovation that will modernize the world.
Another aspect I stand for is equality. Already at the beginning of my studies, I realized that the number of women in technical degrees is too low. Unfortunately, the image of an engineer or researcher is usually male. I believe that you want to be what you see. That is why I very much want to make my contribution to society so that "woman" and "technology" are no longer contradictory. For this, I will be an active role model, encouraging our daughters to pursue a technical or scientific career.
