My love story with biology began in 2009. My biology teacher (who I really disliked), tasked me with explaining to the rest of the classroom the research of Ada Yonath - earning her the Nobel prize for solving the structure of ribosomes.. So I had to become familiar for the first time in my life with the central dogma of biology and the basic concepts of transcription, splicing and translation. It was literally love from first sight - and of course any dislike to my teacher vanished. My research uses synthetic biology - a field in which we comprise new and unnatural behaviors using novel genetic "parts". As my PI likes to describe it: classic biotechnology tried to make the cow produce more milk or altering the product properties, in synthetic biology, we're trying to make the cow produce orange juice! I'm focusing on a phenomenon called liquid-liquid phase separation and trying to harness it for improving enzymatic processes using synthetic RNA. I am also working with synthetic DNA trying to develop a system that is able to detect human forensic DNA. I love speaking about science and I am always happy to talk with anyone interested in it as well - it's a real passion for me.

In einer Videokonferenz...

... kann ich über meine Forschung sprechen.

... kann ich Experimente oder Messgeräte zeigen., z.B. Molecular biology related - from extracting DNA to cloning and transformation. Also - enzymatic assays

... beantworte ich gerne Fragen zum Studium oder zu Karrierechancen.

... spreche ich auch mit Universitätsstudenten im Rahmen einer Vorlesung.
