Jan-Mathis Hein
PhD candidate, Ruhr-University Bochum
I am a PhD student at the Ruhr-University Bochum at the department of theoretical chemistry. In my work I try to elucidate the atomistic and molecular processes of small biological systems using molecular dynamics simulations with which one can simulate and observe molecules and their interactions on a computer. Currently I am investigating the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein which the virus uses to infiltrate the cells of its host and how antibodies can prevent this. What I like about my work is that you can really get an understanding on the molecular level of these fascinating biological systems like for example the coronavirus which is also a very important topic nowadays. Furthermore, I like using logic to utilize the power of computers to advance scientific research.
